The Ballinrobe-based councillor welcomed the news that Mayo County Council was in the process of finalising the purchase of a fourth velocity patcher for the county - but he told the April meeting of the council, 'we should be seeing more return from those machines on the road'.

Fianna Fáil councillor Damien Ryan has welcomed progress taking place to improve the N84 north of Shrule. At the Roads and Transport Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) of Mayo County Council, Cllr Ryan asked for an update on the situation in regards to the N84 north of Shrule and 'that pinch point area that has been the focus of representations on a regular basis at Transport Infrastructure Ireland level', adding: "I am led to believe they may have considered that works." Responding to Cllr Ryan, head of roads for Mayo County Council, Paul Dolan, said: "On the initial TII allocation there was nothing for it, but I did contact them and they have allocated €50,000, which is to start the design and hopefully we can get on to land acquisition later this year to try and get widening the road at that section, there is an allocation now as a scheme and that should progress."
